Lumbar Facet Joint Injection

Facet joint injections are diagnostic tools to determine whether or not a given facet joint or joints are contributing to a patient’s back pain.  Local anesthetic is typically injected with or without long-acting steroids. Steroids help to relieve pain and inflammation and can enable a patient to progress in physical therapy to improve mobility and daily function.  Please refer to the lumbar facet syndrome page for more details on the diagnosis and treatment of this problem.  The video above demonstrates the procedure for lumbar facet joint injection.
